When is the best time to fly to Timmins?
Summer is usually the peak season in Ontario, thanks to its wonderfully warm weather. Flights during this time are likely to be more expensive but will enable you to enjoy the great outdoors and to take part in the great Canadian activities of camping and hiking. In the winter, Timmins usually experiences heavy snowfall, which can give it a very romantic and magical look. Visiting Timmins in winter time can be ideal for those who want to take advantage of the city’s ski facilities. You could also visit during one of the country’s festivals and join in with the celebrations. For example, Canada Day falls on July 1 each year.
Located in the stunning northeastern regions of Ontario, Timmins was originally a mining town. From beaches to beautiful lakeland nature reserves, as well as a welcoming urban centre with great bars, places to eat, and cultural attractions this city has so much to offer the visitor. Kettle Lakes Provincial Park is a wonderful place to visit during your stay in Timmins. This park was created by glacial movement, which resulted in the formation of twenty distinct lakes. The park is a very peaceful place, and has several great hiking trails that you can explore if you are a keen walker. Dana-Jowsey Lakes Provincial Park and the Gillies Lake Conservation Area are two other places of great natural beauty in this part of Ontario. Ski fans, meanwhile, are sure to love the Kamiskotia Snow Resort which has slopes and activities for skiers of all ages and abilities. If you would like to learn more about the heritage of the city, then be sure to pop in to the Timmins Museum and National Exhibition Centre, which is a small and quaint building filled with fascinating exhibits.
The main public transport links in the city are provided by Timmins Transit buses. These buses will take you to all of the key destinations in town. You can also take advantage of the specialised tour buses to get to the parks and nature reserves, and other areas of interest. The city has a rail station, too, so you can explore further afield if you like. Hiring a car of your own is a great option if you want some independence, and there are many taxis and limousines for hire dotted throughout the streets as well.
Getting from the Airport to the City
Timmins Victor M. Power Airport (YTS) is one of Ontario’s largest airports, and it is located a short drive from the centre of the city. Hire a car, take an airport shuttle bus, or take a taxi to get to your hotel once your flight arrives. If you want to arrive in style, you can also hire a limousine to take you to where you need to go.
