The Costa del Sol runs for about 160km to the east and west of Malaga, an enormously popular holiday destination to which millions of Britons flock each year, attracted by the nonstop sun, beautiful beaches and warm waters. There is an abundance of nightlife for partygoers, safe resorts for families with young children, golf courses for sporting fanatics and small, hillside villages for those drawn by the relaxed Spanish way of life.
On the Eastern Costa del Sol is the city of Malaga, capital of the Malaga province, and gateway to the region. It is at the airport here that Costa del Sol flights land. Also in the east is Nerja, an important town housing most of the tourist accommodation of the costa. The beaches include Playa Calahonda and El Maro.
The Western side of the costa starts at Malaga and runs to the border of the Cadiz province. This is where Ronda, a charming village with the famous gorge, is located.
It is also where you’ll find the most popular resorts of Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella and Puerto Banús, that range from all-day breakfast Fuengirola to yacht-packed Puerto Banus.
